Originally from the Eastern island kingdom of Senren, Ryosuke was traveling on the mainland when his adventuring party enountered a slaver's train. The party took out the slavers and freed their captives -- including the most beautiful elf woman Ryosuke had ever seen.

The elf, Anjali, had been taken far from her home. Ryo vowed to escort her safely home. Over the course of the journey he lost his heart to her, but he never expected her to reciprocate his feelings -- so it came as a great shock to him when Anjali made a counter-proposal. Rather than take her home, she said, he should take her with him; she would stay with him for as long as he wanted her, with no conditions.

After encountering narrow-minded prejudice in both human and elvish settlements, they traveled to Laranica in the Freelands. Since elf and human mix more freely there, a mixed couple isn't quite as remarkable. Ryo took a trial by combat and won a position in the city guard there.
