Mercenary Rafe Greysteel came up to the Freelands from the southern-continent kingdom of Calan. After a successful mission to slay a red dragon, he chose to journey north as a change of scenery... and to distance himself from some less than pleasant memories.

Eventually he found his way to Laranica - having picked up a new companion, Kinnyo, along the way. The pair arrive in the elven city shortly before an upheaval that will awaken a powerful ancient artifact and change their lives forever.
