Barin was a foundling adopted by a childless human couple. He was raised in a fairly tolerant region and managed to grow up without much bitterness at being a half-breed. He knew very little about the elven culture, however, and considered seeking a place in one of the temples to Corellon Larethian - until he encounted strong prejudice the first time he met elves. His (understandably) poor opinion of the race changed for the better after spending some time in Laranica. where the young and open-minded leader enforces a policy of tolerance. By then, however, he was already dedicated to the service of Isis, goddess of Magic, as a cleric-mage.

After serving several years in Isis' temple at Laranica, he met members of the Court there who invited him along on their adventures. He fell hopelessly - or so he thought - in love with Jendar Alvenon, and quietly adored her from afar until she whacked him over the head with the clue-by-four and dragged him into bed. The couple's first child was born a year before their wedding (as Isis is also a goddess of fertility, and has a wicked sense of humor!!).
