Sandor al'Shaharin

Sandor is the child of an elven mother and a human father. His elvish parent was the captive of desert bandit chieftain Raschid bin Hamoud, and she made no secret of the fact that she despised the man. He thought to get rid of the uppity elf by sending her as an offering to a black dragon with whom the raider hoped to make an alliance. The dragon returned the woman alive, threatening the raiders if she should be harmed. (What the bandits didn't know was this particular black dragon used to be a human warrior, transformed by a curse but on very rare occasions able to regain his human form. He took the elf-woman to his bed and sent her back to Raschid pregnant.) Since the elf promptly gelded Raschid upon her return, the half-breed son she bore was -- so the bandit thought -- his only offspring.

Sandor's mother died of illness when he was seven; the boy survived on the fringes of the bandits' encampments for nine more years, collecting bits of cast-off equipment and dropped coins, before finally running away. On his way out, Sandor stole his Flame Tongue sword from his father's treasure room. He traveled several weeks north before holing up at an inn, where he encountered elf fighter-mage Obarien Silverthorne. When Raschid sent a quasit after his son to force him back, the boy helped Obarien and the inn's other occupants fight it off.

Sandor is currently living on the farm of Thomas Bauer, where he was originally sent to finish growing up and get some decent socialization. (Although Sandor doesn't know this, the farmer's oldest adopted son, Max Bauersen, is convinced that he and Sandor are half-brothers. Max is right, too.) Sandor has since married the family's youngest daughter, Greta.
