At only about 500 years of age, Maren hardly deserves the title of "dowager," but with her husband deceased and her son about to take his throne and wed, she's doing her best to accept it gracefully.

Maren was born and raised in the Northwoods and lived her life in happy obscurity until an adventuring party which included several elves passed through on a journey. One of them, a strapping fellow named Arindor, quite swept her off her feet -- and that was before she found out he was the leader of the elven city to the south, Laranica.

She moved to the city with Arindor, married him and gave him a son - Galen - before the ruling prince got himself into a fatal series of mishaps.

Not raised amidst power or politics, Maren had no desire to rule, and even turned down an offered seat on her young son's Regency council; instead she has spent her time becoming Laranica's favorite patron of the arts as well as a respected herbalist.
