Kiani Tyrill wasn't expecting her life to change dramatically when she met Max Bauersen. The young elven thief was running in "girls just want to have fun" mode, stealing along the way from those she felt were wicked (or stupid) enough to deserve her professional attentions. When she saw the big human fighter, she thought it might be amusing to flirt with him -- but found that ambition thwarted by Max's current companion: a unicorn.

It soon became obvious that if she wanted to get anywhere with Max, the unicorn had to go. And, in fact, the unicorn did need to relocate soon, as her own mating season drew near and made it necessary for her to find a herd. The human and elf helped her locate other unicorns, at which point she took her leave of Max.

Kiani and Max had a relationship for several months. Then one day, the elf realized that she was actually falling in love with this man -- a human who would live only a short fraction of her own lifespan, and probably break her heart when he died. She panicked over the possibility, and ran out on him.

It took her several more years (and a lot of maturing) to realize that some things are worth the potential pain, but once she did Kiani went searching for Max again. She did find him, but the human warrior also had a new lover by this point: the young cleric, Tieh.

Kiani became jealous; Tieh, when he realized that she used to be involved with Max, tried to withdraw in deference to her prior claim. Finally after several miserable months, they realized that there was enough love to go around and the relationship settled into a stable triad.

It seems to be working for them, so far; they've been a threesome for upwards of five years now, and Kiani has one child, a daughter, by Max.
